Assiniboine Park Zoo – Journey to Churchill

Project Journey

The Journey to Churchill is a showcase 10-acre exhibit at Assiniboine Park Zoo that opened in the summer of 2014.

The centrepiece of the exhibit is the Gateway to the Artic, a one-of-a-kind facility which features a large saltwater aquarium for polar bears that visitors can view from inside a 10-foot-wide acrylic tunnel as well as a 360° theatre.

It also includes The International Polar Bear Conservation Centre which combines research and lab space with an interactive media exhibit. The Tundra Grill houses a restaurant, gift shop, kid’s play area, and washrooms. From here you can watch the polar bears beyond a 150-foot-long wall of specially reinforced glass.

Crosier Kilgour was proud to provide structural engineering services on this exciting project.
